Town of Marsciano

Town of Marsciano
The municipality of Marsciano, located between Todi, Perugia, and Orvieto at the center of the Middle Tiber Valley, has a population of about 19,000 inhabitants. The city has historically enjoyed a prominent position as an important crossroads between these three territories.
In the 1500s, during the conspiracy (one of the bloodiest in the Renaissance) carried out by Grifonetto Baglioni-known as the "Red Wedding of the Baglioni"- Giampaolo Baglioni, one of the few survivors, found refuge in Marsciano and later managed to take revenge on the conspirators.
In 1531 it obtained independence from Perugia by paying 3,000 gold ducats and was granted the right to issue its own Statute. Some of the norms established in that document remain valid today, such as the weekly Monday morning market and the celebration of Saint John on June 24.
During the 1600s the town suffered a devastating plague that decimated the population (1630) and an attack by Mattias de' Medici (1643), brother of Grand Duke Ferdinand II of Tuscany, during the War of Castro.
The Town Hall is located in Largo Garibaldi 1, 06055 Marsciano (PG).
