Town of Cascia

Town of Cascia

The municipality of Cascia has almost 3,000 inhabitants.

Its history has deep roots, with archaeological findings dating back to the 6th–8th centuries Before Christ, first with the Sabine populations and later under Roman rule in the 2nd–3rd centuries Before Christ.

The medieval period was one of the most flourishing for the town. In 1381 Margherita Lotti was born in Cascia; she died as a nun in 1447 and was immediately venerated by the inhabitants and by people around the world. She was beatified in 1628 and canonized in 1900.

Today the town thrives on religious, cultural, and nature tourism.

Cascia is located in the province of Perugia, in southeastern Umbria, among the Sibillini Mountains.
